Gastro Outbreak

Postby Snappo on Tue Sep 22, 2009 9:18 am

Hi All, Just wondering if anyone has any anwers for the following. We, along with many other ACF's, are currently suffering through a gastro outbreak. It hit us quite suddenly and before realizing what it was, quite a few staff members were affected, myself included. This, of course, necessitated time off work and, in a couple of cases, we were unwell over our two usual rostered days off. Staff where I work are upset that they are losing their sick leave due to this, and casuals of course aren't being paid at all. When being paid sick leave, staff are losing their penalty rates also, so, due to factors, well beyond their control, staff are losing money.

Question. Are there any forms of compensation for this type of leave apart from 'sick leave'?

I remember quite a few years ago, I was working part time in the community and part time at the ACF. There was a gastro outbreak at the ACF, therefore, understandably, I wasn't allowed to do my community work. I lost half my income for a fortnight and received nothing in compensation for this.

I will be very interested if anyone knows anything about this issue. Thanks.
