staffing

No mandated staff/resident ratios in Australian aged care facilities AND no mandated minimum skill set required. A case of government ignoring our elderly and frail? Also, discussions regarding your workplace issues, management, culture of your workplace, etc.

Interesting to see that this issue is not a "one off ".
When you have a night manager/ night registered nurse who knows the morning shift is having casual nurses on the next day what does this person do ?
This person phones up the casual staff ie was usually 2 or 3 to relieve permanent staff on leave and says to them that they are not needed for the morning shift one really has great concern as to why?
This was done on a regular basis by this person and of course it impacted on the care of the residents but also the moral and well being of other staff.
When we asked the FM why this was being done to us and residents we got this blank look. The FM didn't know. So what happened ? Absolutely nothing .
The nursing staff in handover all asked this night manager / night registered nurse why did they do it.
To see a person go manic is not nice. The screaming, flaying of hands , finger pointing and threatening of all staff that we all were subject too was horrendous. Of course the written complaint that was given to the FM was sent to head office and nothing was done. This is supposed to be one of the best Aged Care Facilities in NSW that this happened . I remember looking after 30 residents on day shift 2 mornings in a row and informed the FM when would I be getting some assistance . One person arrived at 10.30am the first day and nobody the next . A bit of Occ Health and Safety Issue I pointed out to management . I was dragged into the office and told not to complain . So I went out and took my time with the residents and left at 12.30pm . Now I wonder did anyone else have this same problem ?

Off topic but there's a large payroll program that is owned mis adds totals for staff benefits. On a sale completing, someone misses out. don't trust computers.
